Before leaving home for Thailand

Please make sure you complete the “Document Folder” and “Pre-departure” and “Do Not Bring” Checklists, and make sure all is in order. If you wish to be met at the airport in Bangkok, make sure you have informed us using the “Airport Arrival Advice Form”.

On arrival in Bangkok

At the International Terminal (Don Muang), after passing through Customs (Red Lane = “Something to Declare”; Green Lane = “Nothing to Declare”) into the Arrival Hall:

• If you have advised us that you want ISC staff to meet you at the airport:
 
1. Meet our staff: if you have made arrangements for staff of the International Student Center (ISC) to meet you, by returning to us the completed “Airport Arrival Advice Form”, look for someone holding up a sign with your name on it. They will be wearing a Mahidol University Staff ID Card.
2. Change a small amount of money (say US$100) into Thai Baht at one of the banks, so that you can buy food/drink. Make sure you get some small notes (20, 50, 100 Baht), since not all shops/taxis have change for 500 Baht or 1,000 Baht notes.
3. Pick up a free map of Bangkok in the area in which you wait to collect your luggage
4. Our staff will take you to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine or to your accommodation.
• If we miss you: the Arrivals area can be very crowded; so, if you do not see or miss our staff, you should prepare to get a taxi to the Faculty or to your accommodation.
 
1. Make sure you have the Thai-English map showing the route from the airport to the Faculty ready for the taxi driver, and enough Thai money to pay for the trip.
2. Get a “Taxi Meter” outside the Arrival Hall. At some times, it is actually easier to get a taxi outside the Departures Hall, since passengers are being dropped off there all the time, so go there if you are having any difficulty hailing a taxi.
• If you feel confident about traveling to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine or your accommodation independently
 
1. Please see 2-3 above. Have your map ready for the driver. At some times, it is actually easier to get a taxi outside the Departures Hall, since passengers are being dropped off there all the time, so go there if you are having any difficulty hailing a taxi.

Fill out the “Post-arrival Checklist” provided by the IRC, to make sure you have made all the basic arrangements after you arrive.
