  Philosophy
 
The program places its emphasis on training medical graduates to be able to manage pediatric patients with tropical diseases effectively and efficiently, to be consultants in this field, to be able to originate knowledge independently, and to continuing their medical education. It is in accordance with the national education developmental plan, the philosophy of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University and academic and proficiency standards.
   
  Objective of Program
  To train medical doctors who have basic knowledgein pediatrics to be able to
 
A. 
Develop knowledge and understand the diseases related to tropical pediatrics, with reference to endemic diseases particularly in Southeast Asia, including etiology, incidence, pathogenesis, clinical features, prevention and control.
B. 
Plan appropriate investigations and manage common pediatric infectious diseases efficiently and effectively, with emphasis on tropical and endemic areas.
C. 
Be consultants and transfer their knowledge of tropical pediatrics to other health personnel.
D. 
Integrate curative services with preventive measures, including health promotion in children.
E. 
Plan and conduct research according to the proposed methodology, data analysis and writing up of the thematic paper related to pediatric tropical diseases. Afterwards, students will be able to conduct research efficiently and effectively, to improve the health status in their own countries.
F. 
Use and evaluate epidemiological data and medical biostatistics in solving problems of pediatric health status.
G. 
Use information technology to locate and update knowledge for continuing medical education related to tropical pediatrics.
H. 
Possess responsibility, integrity, good morals and self-sacrifice for the welfare of the community.
   
 
The first trimester begins in early April, while the second trimester begins in October and ends in late March.
   
  Plan A Students must:
 
Hold a M.D., M.B.B.S. or other equivalent qualification that qualifies them to practice as a medical doctor, and which is accepted by Mahidol University. Have clinical experience in pediatrics of not less than 1 year.
Be in good mental and physical health.
Pass the English Proficiency Examination according to the requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University, or have a TOEFL score of 500 or greater.
Have graduated in the D.T.M.&H., or equivalent, which may be considered by the       Program Committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Have a basic knowledge of clinical research.
Exceptions to the above requirements may be made by the Program Committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
   
  Plan B Students must:
 
Hold a M.D., M.B.B.S. or other equivalent qualification that qualifies them to practice as a medical doctor, and which is accepted by Mahidol University.
      Have clinical experience in pediatrics of not less than 1 year.
