RTIC
is situated at the Tanaosri subdistrict, Suan Phung district, Ratchaburi
province. Ratchaburi is one of the several provinces that outline Thailand
with its neighboring nation, Myanmar. Further into the province is Suan
Phung district that particularly delineates the Thai-Myanmar border. The
Tanaosri subdistrict is located at the southern part of Suan Phung. Majority
of the people who live around RTIC are Karen. As this is the case, most
of the residents don’t speak the Thai language. This situation posed a
great challenge in setting up research within the area. Seeing the need,
the research staff had to learn the local language which led to the establishment
of a better relationship with the people. |

| Land area | |
| The total land area reserved for the RTIC covers around 6,400 square meters. This land was originally reserved for the military force located near the Thai-Myanmar. With the intercession of the Department of Forestry, the land was handed over to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine for the construction of the RTIC. As of the moment, less than 20% of the land is being occupied by the different facilities and structures of the centre. | |
