| The department of Tropical Pediatrics was established in 1974. Our main missions are conducting clinical researches, disseminating knowledge and providing medical services in the field of tropical pediatrics.
For research, the department has achieved a significant contribution in advance knowledge in tropical pediatrics including malaria, intestinal parasite, rabies immunization and recently dengue epidemiology in Thailand and clinical trials of dengue and Japanese encephalitis vaccines. The department has contributed in publication of more than 80 scientific articles and 4 textbooks.
For academic part, staff of the department have actively participated in the post-graduate international programs of the faculty i.e. D.T.M.&H., M.Sc.(Trop. Med), Ph.D. (Trop. Med), and M.C.T.M. courses as well as in other short training courses. Since 1994 the department has been responsible for a full course of Master degree of Clinical Tropical Medicine (Tropical Pediatrics) [M.C.T.M. (Tropical Pediatrics)]. The department has been collaborated with Division of Tropical Child Health, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom, for Master of Tropical Pediatrics students for a period of eight weeks a year during 1987-2000.
The services provided by staff from the department include 1) patients’ care in both inpatient and outpatient units of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, and 2) provision of current knowledge and research information on Tropical Pediatrics to international visitors and local health personnel in Thailand.
The department also contributes in establishing the Thailand Chapter of International Society of Tropical Pediatrics , which will be co-organizer of the 9 th International Congress of Tropical Pediatrics in the year 2011.
