Rationale:
In past decades, there have been many attempts to develop and improve policy implementation for school health and nutrition (SHN) programmes in Asia. Although SHN has been constantly on the agenda in Asia, there are still many challenges to address.
In response to the SHN needs in Asia, a new training course was proposed to build up on current capacity initiatives and practical support for those in the frontline of delivery of SHN programmes. The partnership of the expertise of the Asian Centre of International Parasite Control (ACIPAC) at Mahidol University’s Faculty of Tropical Medicine in parasitic disease control, the research experience of the Japan Consortium for Global School Health Research (JC-GSHR) and the programmatic experience in SHN of the Partnership for Child Development (PCD) Imperial College London, provides a strong platform for these activities.
To keep pace with successful 1st to 6th SHN workshop and training courses held by the partners in Asia from 2012-2017 the 7th training course on SHN programmes in Asia will take place during 11-17 February 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2018 SHN Training Course will be focusing on Early Childhood Development and adolescent health. The course aims to highlight health and nutrition management in schools and the importance of SHN policy, skills based health education, school-based health services and a safe school environment. It also looks to develop the capacity of human resources and staff training with regard to SHN activities. Beside this, there is opportunity for all participants to exchange and share experiences and best practices on SHN with each other. We also brainstorm to solve serious problems and develop practical action plans in order to effectively apply best practice in the region.
