Professor Emeritus Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta
  Professor Emeritus Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta was co-founder of the faculty of Tropical Medicine. She was also the head of the Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine and the Director of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for 17 years, between 1961 and 1978.
 
Other positions she held were President of the Thai Medical Women’s Association, President of the Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Association of Thailand as well as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Mahidol University.
 
She was a consultant to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, as well as to the Ministry of Public Health in Thailand. Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta was a member of the World Health Organization expert Advisory Panel on Malaria.
 
Numerous awards and honors were presented to her for her renowned contributions to Tropical Medicine, especially her research on chloroquine –resistant Plasmodium falciparum
malaria.
 
She has been recognized by being awarded with the World Health Organization Medal, the Professor Sud Sangvichian Lecture Prize and the Chevaler dans l’Ordre de Palmes Acade’mique from the French Government.
 
Professor Emeritus Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta passed away in 1999.
