*These subjects have been organized with the cooperation of the Department of Radiological Science, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital ; the Department of Tropical Nutrition and Food Science, Faculty of Tropical Medicine ; and the Office of Atomic Energy for Peace, Ministry of Science Technology and Environment.

TMRD 502 Nuclear Physics 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on the basic mathematic calculation involving in nuclear physics, standard deviation, review of physical principles, atomic and nuclear structure, and properties of alpha, beta, gamma, x-rays and neutrons, radioactivity, decay mechanisms. The further aspects are concerned mainly with radiation detection principles and measurement of radiation which are responsible for the use of instrumental methods, nuclear particles, ionization, scintillation, detectors and radiation dosimetry, survey instruments and special-purpose instruments.

TMRD 503 Biological Effects of Radiation 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on biological effects of radiation or hazards of radiation on all cells or organs of the body including relative biological effectiveness. The subject is concerned with radiosensitivity, radiation damage, basic radiation dosimetry, dose-response characteristics and somatic effects concerning with organs in acute effects, late effects concerning with neoplasms and cancer, tissue effects concerning with life-span, growth and development and hereditary effects.

TMRD 504 Radioisotopes in Medicine and Biology 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on the applications of radioisotopes as indicators in diagnostic implication or remedal action. The topics include operation of beta and gamma counters; basic radiation safety and protection, laboratory instrumentations and handling radioisotopes; radiochemical techniques and application of radioisotopes in medical and biological aspects; such as therapeutic aspects. It also includes application in pathophysiology, helminth, parasite and host relationship, a segment on nuclear medicine concerning with radiopharmaceuticals scanning and instruments and widespread use in the diagnosis of diseases and human health.

TMRD 505 Radiation Protection 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on health physics dealing with the protection of the individual and population groups against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. The subject is concerned mainly with: the radiation protection and protective regulations; practical aspects of radiation protection; whole body counting; dose calculation radiation protection-unsealed sources which include contamination, safe handling and shielding; waste management and monitoring including decontamination: health physics instruments including radiation dosimetry and survey instruments; personnel monitoring devices, air sampling.

TMRD 506 Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on radioactivity and decay mechanisms which are alpha emission, beta emission, positron emission, gamma-rays, curie, specific activity, kinetics of radioactive decay and half-life, and the movement of radio activity through the environment or matter. Knowledge on accelerators which enhance the capacity to produce radioactive substances, cyclotron, betatron synchrotron, elementary particles, and radiation sources and the application of radioisotopes radiopharmaceuticals, labelled compounds and radiochemical techniques will be discussed.

TMRD 507 Engineering and Physics of Nuclear Reactors 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and seminars on reactors which require special knowledge to approach the operation and awareness of certain hazards, and hot cells which protect workers from toxic substances and exposure to the penetrating rays. It also involves fission and fission products, nuclear reactors, radiation from reactors, radiation surveys, reactor survey instruments, fix monitors, nuclear-accident monitors. Moreover, it concerns with shielding, liners, services, ventilation, drainage, viewing facilities, remote handling devices, monitoring hot cell operations and personnel monitors.

TMRD 601 Special Topics in Tropical Radioisotopes 2(2-0)
Prerequisite : None
The subject consists of lectures and discussions on the subjects of particular interest in nuclear physics and nuclear technology in medicine and biology with special emphasis on the applications of radioisotopes in tropical medicine.
