Background

Skin diseases are highly prevalent in the general population, especially in the tropics where poverty and disability are the two main characteristics of the patients and the community.

The Dermatology Unit was established in 1994 under the name of “Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Disease Unit” and the name was changed to the “Dermatology Unit” in 2005. Prof. Chaisin Viravarn was the first Head of the Unit from 1994-1995 and Assoc. Prof. Wichai Supanaranond was the Head from 1996 -2008. As the Unit becomes widely recognized by the public, the Dermatology Unit recruited more staff. Currently, the Out Patient Department of the Dermatology Unit is run every morning to serve the increasing demand of the patients with skin problems.
