Personal Statement

  I am currently professor of Internal Medicine working at Department of Clinical tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand. I, as investigators and co-investigators, have conducted mainly in pathophysiology of malaria, new diagnostic tools, and clinical anti-malaratial drug trials. The breaking impact of my study was the first study using artesunate and mefloquine as the first world regimen of artemisinin-combinationa therapy (ACT) for falciparum malaria treatment (Looareesuwan et al, Lancet 1992). Since 2006, World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced ACT as the first line anti-malarial treatment for falciparum malaria causing dramatic declining of malaria incidence and death worldwide. I have also collaborated as with WHO in case management of malaria training inside and outside Thailand for nearly 20 years. At present apart from malaria studies, I am also interested in other aspects of tropical, internal, herbal medicine and tropical pharmacology.
