Background

The Clinical Pharmacology Unit at Mahidol University is

a world-renowned center for teaching, research,

and clinical services in tropical medicine. The unit

is headed by Dr. Sant Muangnoicharoen,

 M.D.,

 Ph.D.,

an esteemed scholar in the field of clinical pharmacology and tropical medicine.

Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s research has made significant

contributions to our understanding of the pharmacokinetics,

pharmacogenomics, and adverse drug reactions of tropical

 medicines.

Research

The unit’s research focuses on the following areas:

  • Clinical trials: The unit conducts clinical trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new and existing treatments for tropical diseases. Dr. Muangnoicharoen has published extensively on clinical trials for malaria, dengue fever, and other tropical diseases.
  • Pharmacokinetics: The unit studies the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs in tropical populations. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s research has helped to identify factors that influence drug disposition in tropical populations, such as genetic polymorphisms and nutritional status.
  • Pharmacogenomics: The unit studies the genetic factors that influence the response to drugs, with a particular focus on tropical populations. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s research has led to the development of personalized pharmacogenomic testing to guide drug therapy in tropical populations.
  • Adverse drug reactions: The unit studies the adverse effects of drugs in tropical populations. Dr. Muangnoicharoen has developed a national surveillance system for adverse drug reactions in Thailand.

Services

The unit’s services include the following:

  • Outpatient care: The unit provides outpatient care to patients with tropical diseases. Dr.Muangnoicharoen’s team of experienced clinicians provides comprehensive care to patients with a wide range of tropical diseases.
  • Inpatient care: The unit provides inpatient care to patients with severe or complicated tropical diseases. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s team of dedicated physicians and nurses provide expert care to critically ill patients.
  • Clinical trials: The unit conducts clinical trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new and existing treatments for tropical diseases. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s team of clinical trialists has a proven track record of conducting successful clinical trials.
  • Research: The unit conducts research on the pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, and adverse drug reactions of tropical medicines. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s team of researchers is at the forefront of research in clinical pharmacology and tropical medicine.

The unit is committed to providing high-quality care and advancing the field of tropical medicine. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s leadership and the dedication of the unit’s staff have made the Clinical Pharmacology Unit at Mahidol University a global leader in tropical medicine research and care.

In addition to the above, the unit also offers the following services:

  • Training: The unit offers a training program in clinical pharmacology and clinical research that integrates formal training in basic and clinical pharmacology and clinical research methodologies with hands-on experience in laboratory research and human clinical trial.Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s team of experienced trainers provides mentorship and guidance to trainees from around the world.
  • Consultations: The unit provides consultations to physicians, medical, paramedical and science students on the principles and practices of clinical pharmacology. Dr.Muangnoicharoen and his team are experts in clinical pharmacology and are available to provide expert advice on a wide range of topics.
  • Laboratory services: The unit provides a wide range of laboratory services, including drug assays, pharmacokinetic studies, and pharmacogenomic testing. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s team of highly skilled laboratory personnel provides high-quality laboratory services to support research and patient care.

The Clinical Pharmacology Unit is a vital resource for the study and treatment of tropical diseases. Dr. Muangnoicharoen’s leadership and the unit’s commitment to excellence have made the Clinical Pharmacology Unit at Mahidol University a global leader in tropical medicine research and care.
