Background

     The Gastroenterology Research Unit is located at the 5th floor of the Hospital-T Building, Faculty of Tropical Medicine to support research, teaching/training and medical service at the Department of Tropical Medicine. The research activities of the unit are focused on the tropical hepatic and gastroenteric diseases, e.g. viral hepatitis, systemic infection involving liver, food-borne diseases, The research has mainly been conducted in the hospitals with the aims to develop the new procedures for the diagnosis and new management methods for hepatic and gastroenteric diseases. The unit has also collaborated with Phop-Phra Hospital in Tak province and Suan-Phung Hospital in Ratchaburee province  for field-based  research.

 

    

Current activities

The mission of unit has served the mission of the Department of Tropical Medicine to pursue the mission in three major activities: teaching/training, research and medical service. The details of each activity are showed as follows:

Teaching activity

Unit’s staff has involved in the teaching/training activity of the Department of Tropical Medicine both in-house lectures and field works, particularly in 5 courses for postgraduate and undergraduate students of Faculty of Tropical Medicine as listed below:

–  Doctor of Philosophy in Tropical Medicine, Ph.D. (Trop. Med.)

–  Master in Clinical Tropical Medicine (M.C.T.M.)

–  Graduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (D.T.M.& H.)

 

Undergraduate Program

M.D.: Collaborative Project to Produce Rural Doctors (CPPRD)

Research activities

   We are studying on the epidemiology of food-borne diseases including intestinal parasitic infection and the alternative methods for diagnosis and treatment of tropical hepato-gastroenteric diseases.

Medical Care Services

   Medical care service is one of the main functions of the unit. Our medical staffs have involved in activities of Bangkok Hospital for Tropical Diseases (both in-house and field works).
