23rd November 2021 – The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University in collaboration with Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University and Bangplee Hospital held a press conference on an international multicenter collaborative research project to assess the efficacy of antiviral drugs for COVID-19. The conference took place at Chalermprakiat Conference Room, 5th Floor, Chalermprakiat Building. the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. There were 5 speakers including Assoc. Prof. Weerapong Phumratanaprapin, Dean of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Professor Sir Nicholas J. White, Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Asst. Prof. Viravarn Luvira, Department of Clinical Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Asst. Prof. Wiroj Ruksakul, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital,
Navamindradhiraj University and Dr. Somsak Chaisupsathaporn, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, Bangplee Hospital.
The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University in collaboration with Oxford University were selected to conduct a research project on comparing and assessing the efficacy of different antiviral drugs for COVID-19 which involved many international research institutions including Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Vajira Hospital and Bangplee Hospital. This research project was the world’s first comparative study of different antiviral drugs for COVID-19. The aims of this research project were to find medications to treat COVID-19 and evaluate the efficacy of COVID-19 drugs in changing viral loads in mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 patients.
