How to Submit a Specimen for Laboratory Testing

  • Submission via the Hospital for Tropical Diseases
    • Submit the specimen together with a completed test request form.
    • The form can be downloaded from the Download Forms section.
    • Bring both the specimen and the form to the Medical Records Department at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
    • Laboratory testing fees are paid at the same location.
    • Hospital staff will then forward the specimen to the Tropical Medicine Diagnostic Reference Laboratory.
  • For research projects or bulk submissions
  • If submitting a large number of specimens (e.g., for research), please contact the laboratory in advance to coordinate the delivery.

  • Discounts for 10 or more specimens
    • If 10 or more specimens are submitted in one batch, you may be eligible for a discounted laboratory service fee.
    • Inform the staff at the Medical Records Department during submission.
  • Payment by credit
    • If you wish to pay via credit (non-cash), you must contact the Medical Records Department in advance to arrange the billing process.
    • Without prior approval, payment must be made in cash.

  • Request for repeat or additional testing
    • Contact the laboratory to check if the original specimen is still available.
    • Complete a new test request form and include the original lab number.

Specimen Transportation Instructions

  1. Temperature Control & Container:
    • Specimens must be transported at a temperature of 2-8°C in a container with a tight-fitting lid. The container must be clearly marked with the Biohazard symbol and must contain ice packs to maintain the required temperature.
  2. Vehicle Transport:
    • Place the specimen box on a flat surface and use securing devices to ensure it is firmly attached to the vehicle.
    • Do not place the specimen box in direct sunlight.
    • The vehicle should carry a biological spill kit (ชุดเก็บกวาดสารชีวภาพหกหล่น) for emergency use.
  3. General Safety & Hygiene:
    • All types of specimens must be placed in a securely closed box (ฝาปิดมิดชิด).
    • The box must have the Biohazard symbol affixed.
    • The transport container must be cleaned daily after use.
