Background

Dr. Dorn Watthanakulpanich is Associate Professor in the Department of Helminthology. He obtained his B.Sc. in Medical Technology from Chiang Mai University, M.Sc. in Tropical Medicine and M.D. degree from Mahidol University. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Biomolecular Sciences by Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, United Kingdom. Dr. Dorn also holds a Board Certification in Community Mental Health from Thai Medical Council. He works as a medical doctor in the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and involved in both research and teaching.

Research

Dr. Dorn is expert in helminthic infection studies, with emphasis on soil-transmitted helminthiases and school-based parasite control. He has a broad experience in parasitology including integrated project management, community mental health, epidemiological surveys, diagnostic methods and the clinical manifestations and treatment of parasitic infections. He is also involved in studies leading to further development of anti-helminthic drugs. Working as a medical parasitologist, he is focusing on clinical manifestations of patients who come and visit the Parasite Clinic with larva migrans of many kinds of tissue nematodes, such as Gnathostoma spinigerum, Angiostrongylus cantonensis, Toxocara spp, etc.
