Background

Dr. Waranya Wongwit is Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Environmental Medicine. She obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Biology from Kasetsart University, Thailand. She was awarded M.Sc. in Biological Sciences and Ph.D. in Biochemistry degrees by the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Waranya is a researcher in the department and largely involved in teaching and administration at the Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine.

Research

Dr. Waranya is expert in the biology and biochemistry of parasites, with special focus on the genus Schistosoma. Her research specialization also includes determination of heavy metals in biological and environmental samples. She also has a strong background in conducting environmental health impact assessment of national development projects, both in water resource development and industrial development projects.
