Background

Assistant Professor Dr. Santi Maneewatchararangsri is a member of the Department of Molecular Tropical Medicine and Genetics, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand. He received B.Sc. in Medical Technology (honors) from Chiang Mai University in 2000 and his Ph.D. (Biomedical Sciences), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Thammasat University, Thailand in 2007. He teaches M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Tropical Medicine international programme, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. He has memberships of national professional academic organizations include Thai Academy of Science and Technology Foundation (TAST), Leptospirosis Club of Thailand, and Genetic Society of Thailand.

Research

His expertise includes Leptospirosis research: Basic Sciences, Serodiagnosis, Vaccine development; Drug Discovery for drug resistant bacteria especially for MDR E. coli; antibody engineering technology, and immunotherapy for infectious diseases and immunobioinformatics.

He has demonstrated excellence in his research career of more than 25 original publications from Pubmed database. He is the principal investigator of more than six ongoing research projects funded by Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, and non-profit organizations including Thailand Research Fund and Center of Excellence in Medical Biotechnology, and the Newton Fund, UK. He received an outstanding research award from the Thailand Research Fund in 2013. He has previously received international funding including the Professional Development Programme for Mid-Career Researchers from the Newton Fund the Researcher Links Programme 2015/16 from the Newton-UK-Thailand Research and Innovation Partnership Fund, and Leader in Innovation Fellowships 2018, Newton UK-Thailand Research and Innovation Partnership Fund (2015-2018).

His creative innovation focuses on diagnostic test kits for leptospirosis and antimicrobial-drug discovery for drug resistant bacteria especially for MDR E. coli. In addition to improving health and well-being and improving quality of life of patients, this translational research will also strengthen R&D capability to take the country out from ‘middle-income trap’, and will result in wealth creation, economic prosperity, and regeneration of public, private and third sector organizations, and enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of organizations.
