Dr. Porntip Petmitr is an Associate Professor in the Department of Protozoology. She obtained her B.Sc. in Medical Technology from Chiangmai University. She has an M.Sc. in Tropical Medicine and Ph.D. in Biochemistry, both from Mahidol University. She teaches graduate students and supervises several Masters and Ph.D. students at the Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Porntip is an authority in the study of protozoa, with emphasis on biochemistry and molecular techniques. Her expertise includes molecular diagnosis of protozoan parasites such as Trichomonas vaginalis and human malarial parasites. She has a strong background in the cultivation and drug sensitivity testing of malaria parasites. Her research interests include the development of differential diagnosis of human entamoeba and studies on DNA replicating enzymes of Plasmodium falciparum as new chemotherapeutic targets against malaria.
