Dr.
Porntip Petmitr is an Associate Professor in the Department of Protozoology.
She obtained her B.Sc. in Medical Technology from Chiangmai University. She has
an M.Sc. in Tropical Medicine and Ph.D. in Biochemistry, both from Mahidol
University. She teaches graduate students and supervises several Masters and
Ph.D. students at the Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine.
Dr.
Porntip is an authority in the study of protozoa, with emphasis on biochemistry
and molecular techniques. Her expertise includes molecular diagnosis of
protozoan parasites such as Trichomonas vaginalis and human malarial
parasites. She has a strong background in the cultivation and drug sensitivity
testing of malaria parasites. Her research interests include the development of
differential diagnosis of human entamoeba and studies on DNA replicating
enzymes of Plasmodium falciparum as new chemotherapeutic targets against
malaria.
