Dr. Sasithon Pukrittayakamee is a
Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine. Her work is largely focused
on anti-malarial drug discovery, with an emphasis on the particular challenges
involved with the malaria parasite Plasmodium vivax. Dr. Sasithon is an
established research leader in Southeast Asia.
Dr. Sasithon is a global
authority on tropical infectious diseases, especially clinical trials, malaria
vaccines, malaria infection, anti-malarial drugs, and malaria-transmission
blocking. She has over 190 peer-reviewed publications and expertise in such
subjects as the treatment of severe malaria, the conducting of open and
randomized trials, the effects of different antimalarial drugs, genotyping, and
in exploring the contribution of candidate genes to artemisinin resistance. She
is also very interested in education, training and mentoring new malaria
researchers in Thailand.
