Faculty of Tropical Medicine - INSTITUTIONAL ANIMAL CARE AND USE COMMITTEE (FTM-IACUC)

FTM-IACUC memberships include doctor of veterinary medicine, researcher experienced in research involving animals and nonscientific background public member.

Responsibilities of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

  • Oversee and regularly evaluate the institutional program for the care and use of laboratory animals.
  • Review and approve animal use protocols to ensure scientific justification and ethical compliance.
  • Ensure animal use proposals are ethical, justified, and minimize pain/distress.
  • Ensure that all activities conducted by FTM-LAU staff and researchers comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with the Deputy Dean for Research Compliance, Attending Veterinarian (AV), and Head of the Animal Laboratory.
  • Inspect animal housing and use areas once a year for compliance and welfare standards.
