Orders and Deliveries

Procedure for Ordering and Bringing Laboratory Animals into the FTM-LAU

Researchers who wish to house laboratory animals at the Faculty of Tropical Medicine Laboratory Animal Unit (FTM-LAU) should follow the steps below:

Step 1. Obtain Animal Ethics Approval
Animal ordering can be initiated only after the research protocol has been approved by the Faculty of Tropical Medicine Animal Care and Use Committee (FTM-ACUC).

Step 2. Order Laboratory Animals
Researchers should order laboratory animals from the approved vendor specified in the approved protocol (e.g., National Laboratory Animal Center or other approved animal suppliers) and arrange the delivery date, time, and destination to: Faculty of Tropical Medicine Laboratory Animal Science Unit (FTM-LAU)

Step 3. Submit the Laboratory Animal Intake Form (LAU 01)
Once the delivery date has been confirmed, submit the LAU 01 – Laboratory Animal Intake Form at least 3 days before the scheduled animal arrival.

Step 4. Animal Receipt and Acclimatization
FTM-LAU staff will receive the animals and transfer them to the animal holding room for an acclimatization period of at least 3 days before any experimental procedures begin.

Step 5. Register for Facility Access
Before starting animal work, researchers must contact FTM-LAU staff to register for facility access and obtain an access card (or key card, for external users).

Step 6. Submit the Experimental Plan (LAU 05)
Researchers must complete and submit the LAU 05 – Experimental Plan at least 1 day before the scheduled experiment. This form is also used to reserve procedure rooms and laboratory facilities.

Step 7. Request Technical Support
Researchers requiring technical assistance (e.g., animal procedures performed by FTM-LAU staff) should submit the LAU 02 – Laboratory animal procedure request Form and contact FTM-LAU staff at least 1 day in advance.

Step 8. Monthly Service Charges
FTM-LAU will calculate and issue service charges on a monthly basis throughout the animal housing period until the study involving that animal cohort has been completed.
